Palermo sack Cosmi and re-hire Rossi

Sunday 03 April 2011

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has reacted swiftly to his side’s disappointing Sicilian derby defeat to Catania by firing Coach Serse Cosmi and re-hiring Delio Rossi.

The 4-0 loss was the final straw for Zamparini, with results not improving under the ex-Perugia tactician. The Rosaneri picked up only three points out of a possible 12 under the guidance of Cosmi. The Club released a statement to confirm the change, merely hours after Zamparini told the media he would take a night to think about any decision.

Rossi was only shown the door a month ago, with a 0-7 drubbing at the hands of Udinese spelling the end and despite criticism towards him, he returns to the poisoned Palermo chalice.

Palermo sits in eighth position following the derby loss. Their only chance of European qualification comes via an appearance in the final of the Coppa Italia. They face Milan in the two-legged semi finals.
