Brazilian midfielder Rafinha to secure loan move to Inter Milan as he battles for World Cup place

Inter Milan appear to be firm favourites to capture Barcelona’s Rafinha in a loan deal until the end of the season, with the Italian club also understood to have agreed upon a further option that could see them sign the midfielder on a permanent basis for a fee in the region of £30m.

Rafinha – who has previously spent time out on loan from Barcelona at the Spanish side Celta Vigo – is believed to be keen on a move to the Italian giants since falling out of favour at the Catalan club. Make use of the best bonus codes if you think he'll inspire Inter to success in 2018.

Having joined Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy in 2006, Rafinha has made 79 appearances in all competitions following his debut in 2011.

However, stiff competition and injuries have meant that the twice capped Brazilian has yet to feature for the club in the league during a 2017/18 campaign in which a scintillating Barça side have dominated proceedings in La Liga.

The arrival of his fellow countryman Philippe Coutinho within the Barcelona ranks for a club record £140m fee means that the 24-year-old looks set to end a 12 year relationship with the club as he hopes to battle his way into the national team ahead of the summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The player’s imminent move to Serie A has been confirmed by his father, former World Cup winning Brazilian international Mazinho.

Speaking to Diario Sport, he commented on the transfer: "Rafinha's objective is just to play, it's difficult for him to do that at Barcelona. There are a lot of good players [in his position] and it's been similar for five years now.

"He's had bad luck with injuries in these last two years and he just wants to play and feel happy doing what he likes doing at an excellent club like Inter. We hope that these three or four months will help him get back into the Brazil squad for the World Cup.”

Inter battled back from behind to secure a late 1-1 home draw against AS Roma, with whom they appear set to sling it out with in the pursuit for an allocation in next season’s Champions League.

With the tussle for the illustrious fourth Champions League spot beginning to heat up between Inter and Roma, the addition of a technically proficient attack minded midfielder to the ranks of the Nerazzurri could prove to be a definitive factor in what is likely to be a gladiatorial battle of epic proportions between two fierce rivals.
