Serie A side AC Milan have sold forward Patrick Cutrone in an €18m deal to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Italy international has signed a four-year deal with the Premier League side.

Milan’s decision to sell their academy graduate, who was also a fan-favourites, has raised a lot of eyebrows. The 21-year-old, who was once touted as the future of the club, scored 13 goals in 63 Serie A appearances for Rossoneri before his departure. It surely was a sad end to Cutrone’s story at the Milan club, but the transfer was unavoidable due to circumstances.

Cutrone enjoyed a fine breakthrough season in 2017-18 as he scored ten goals in 28 league appearances for Rossoneri. However, his progression was halted in 2018-19 as Milan purchased Krzysztof Piątek from Genoa in January. The Italian forward was reduced to a bit-part role in the second half of the season, and subsequently, his form on the pitch suffered. He made 34 Serie A appearances last season, but only 12 of those came as starts. His return of three goals and two assists also didn’t help his cause as he was deemed surplus to requirements at Milan.

During the summer, when it became clear to Cutrone he doesn’t feature in the plans of new manager Marco Giampaolo, there was no option left for the Italian but to look for new pastures, and the Best free bet offers were all used backing a move to the Premier League.

Milan might regret their decision to sell him one day, but it is an excellent move for both Cutrone and Wolves. At this stage of his career, Cutrone needs to play regularly, which was not possible at Milan. The Serie A club are desperate to achieve Champions League football, and they could use this money to supplement their transfer budget.

Meanwhile, Wolves are a young side with lofty ambitions in Premier League. The Midlands side are also participating in Europa League this season, and this means that Cutrone will get a lot of opportunities in Nuno Espirito’s side. The Wolves manager has a reputation for developing young talent, and under his tutelage, Cutrone has the potential to turn into a world-class striker.

In 2017-18, Cutrone was the leading goal-scorer for Milan with 18 goals in all competitions. Due to his impressive performance for Milan, he earned his first senior cap for Italy national team in March 2018.

For Wolves, this transfer represents a great value for money as they have got themselves a young talent with a lot of potentials. In today’s market, €18m is not much money for such a talent, and Wolves could reap benefits for years to come.
