Ranieri euphoric after win against Bayern

By Steve Mitchell

Wednesday 24 November 2010

Roma coach Claudio Ranieri could hardly contain his delight after seeing his side turn round a two goal deficit to beat German giants Bayern Munich 3-2 at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, he was asked to comment on club President Rosella Sensi’s claims that the game was one of the greatest victories in the club’s history. He explained that: “Is this one of the great victories for Roma? If the President thinks so, then it must be true”.

He went on to thank the supporters for their fantastic support even when his team were 2-0 down: “In the first-half we have suffered but together with our public we have displayed our great fighting spirit in the second period”.

Ranieiri also stated that Roma may not have been able to turn around the game earlier this season, but after a shaky start to the campaign were infused with renewed confidence.

"We would not have been able to turn this game around at the start of the season, we were still caught up in thinking about last season. But all those shocks we got helped us wake up and the turning point was the game against Brescia, despite the fact that we lost".

The Giallorossi have given themselves a great chance to qualify for the last 16 of Europe’s premier competition requiring just a point from their final game against Romanian FC Cluj on match day six.

Well done to Ranieri, the team and the fantastic support evident as I watched it live from England. A magnificent result and in the end the German Champions did not know what had hit them.
