Ancelotti linked with Roma return

Monday 29 November 2010

Reports in The Independent newspaper are linking Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti with a shock return to Roma in the summer.

Ancelotti spent eight years in the capital between 1979 and 1987 and is revered by the tifosi of the Giallorossi. His current president at Chelsea, Roman Abramovich, has made no secret of his desire to lure current Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola to Stamford Bridge when the Catalan’s contract expires in the summer and this seems to spell the end of the Italian’s time in London.

The relationship between the 51-year-old Italian and Abramovich appears to have broken down after the Russian billionaire owner fired Ancelotti’s assistant Ray Wilkins earlier this month apparently without consulting the coach and a split now seems inevitable. There are already rumours in circulation that the Italian club has already sounded out the possibility of bringing their former midfield star back to the Stadio Olimpico.
