Lecce defender Soulymane Diamoutene was confronted by a group of supporters at the club’s training ground on Thursday the Corriere Dello Sport reports.

A small section of the club’s hardcore ultras invaded the training ground asking the Malian international to: “remove the Lecce shirt”.

The player then headed straight for the dressing rooms whilst the supporters in question were taken away after a lengthy discussion with coach Luigi De Canio.

Later, Diamoutene returned to complete the session but afterwards explained the reasons behind what had taken place :< i> “it was not a racial incident - it was because I used to play for Bari”.

The 27-year-old made the controversial switch from the Salentini’s Puglian neighbours last summer and has already faced criticism on the terraces during home games at the Via del Mare.

This latest incident may hasten his departure from the club but he concluded by stating that: “I think only to the match against Genoa, then I will speak to the directors to discuss my future”.
