Brescia president to stand down

By Alex Mott

Wednesday 20 April 2011

Luigi Corioni, Brescia’s longstanding president, has told Sky Sports Italia that he is finally standing down after nearly 20 years involvement with the club.

Speaking to reporters, the 74-year-old businessman said: “My adventure at Brescia has come to an end, whether the team survive in Serie A this season or not. I’ve always wanted to play my part, but the time has come where I have to leave.

“Brescia has become too big for a president so small. What counts is that everyone believes we can stay up. I have been involved with football for more than 40 years now, and I’m getting tired.

“This city deserves a team that can go all the way to the European Cup; I hope the fans’ pride can carry them all the way there.”

Corioni has been at the club since 1992, in which time, Brescia have become Italy’s perennial yo-yo club, being promoted from Serie B on five separate occasions.

Things aren’t looking promising for the Biancoazzuri with five games to go; they currently sit 19th, four points off safety.
