Italy handed World Champions, former Coach and neighbours in EURO 2012 draw
There will be a story to all of the Italian national sides encounters in this summers EURO 2012 finals as the draw made today in Kiev placed Italy in Group C along side Spain, Ireland and Croatia. This also determined that all of the group stage games for the nazionale will play played in Poland.
The three times World Champions will meet the side that dispatched them in the previous European championships, Spain, who later went to win the tournament themselves after a bitter penalty defeat in 2008 quarter finals. This will the groups opening fixture to be held in Gdansk.
Cesare Prandelli's men will then travel south to Poznan for a local derby with Croatia and will stay there for the group's final encounter against Giovanni Trapattoni's Ireland.
Trapattoni lead gli azzurri into the 2002 World Cup following a decorated career in the peninsular and earlier on Friday spoke of his hope that he would not have to clash with his homeland in the group stages.
