Conte praises Juventus fringe players

By Luca Cetta

Friday 09 December 2011

Juventus tactician Antonio Conte has offered praise to his fringe players who featured in the Coppa Italia clash against Bologna.

Emanuele Giaccherini looked to have sealed Juve’s passage to the Quarter-finals with a solo run and finish in the 90th minute, however Andrea Raggi equalised five minutes into injury time. Claudio Marchisio netted the winner in the first period of extra time.

“I’m sorry for the goal conceded in the 95th minute: it’s forced us to exert ourselves even more. Bologna put in a great performance, especially their goalkeeper who made great saves. However, I’m happy because this cup competition is very important for us,” Conte told Rai after the match.

The Coach rested a number of players, giving starts to the likes of Milos Krasic, Giaccherini, Frederik Sorensen, Luca Marrone and Fabio Quagliarella, while Eljero Elia was a second half substitute.

“I’ve received optimal responses from those who usually play less; my lads’ availability is always the greatest thing. Giaccherini? He’s the kind of player who knew how to make the best of himself with smaller teams, and now he deserves to be at Juventus, as he’s shown this evening.”

The Bianconeri will play the winner between Roma and Fiorentina in the next phase.
