Fiorentina in pole for Palombo

By Luca Cetta

Friday 16 December 2011

Fiorentina are leading the race to sign Angelo Palombo, according to Tuttosport.

The Sampdoria captain has been subject of transfer speculation with the January window upcoming, amid Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone saying he deserves to join a great team.

As the Blucerchiati struggles in ninth having drawn 11 of their 19 Serie B matches so far, the Turin daily suggest Palombo is wanted foremost by ex-club Fiorentina. The Italian international left La Viola in 2002 to move to Genoa. Other clubs interested are Parma and Udinese, the latter through to the knockout phase of the Europa League and currently equal first in Serie A.

Garrone told Sky Sport 24 Palombo is a wanted man: “Angelo has been requested, notwithstanding this is not his best period. He is a part of Sampdoria history, especially the Garrone era and he will always be held in high regard.

“He has been requested by Serie A clubs and he deserves to play for an important team.”
