Fiorentina plan Novara line-up without Gilardino

By Greg Shergold

Saturday 07 January 2012

Into the first day of the 2012 campaign, and the difficulty in selection facing Fiorentina coach Delio Rossi ahead of their Sunday afternoon clash with minnows Novara, starts with the loss of Alberto Gilardino to Genoa last week. Rossi is left with little or no option but to start with the Serbian pair of Adem Ljajic and Stevan Jovetic in attack.

Difficulty spreads throughout, with goalkeeper Artur Boruc reportably not at his fittest - this could be young Brazilian stopper Neto's chance to shine between the viola sticks.

Now confirmed in the defence is the centre back pairing of Cesare Natali and Alessandro Gamberini sandwiched by the impressive Matija Nastastic and the returning Mattia Cassani at right back.

The middle line is made for four of five players, Riccardo Montolivo lays deep, flanked by Valon Behrami and either Amidu Salifu or Andrea Lazzari. Juan Vargas starts in his customary position on the left wing while on the right Rossi can rely on Cassani steaming down the line providing some crossing action for Jovetic to break the Novara resistance.
