Merkel set for Milan return?

By Luca Cetta

Tuesday 17 January 2012

Alexander Merkel looks set to return to Milan today to cover for their injury concerns, according to Sky.

The 19-year-old German signed with Genoa on a co-ownership basis in the summer after Milan purchased Stephan El Shaarawy in the same manner.

With Mathieu Flamini, Alberto Aquilani and Gennaro Gattuso all injured, Milan are seeking an extra body in midfield. To compound matters, Kevin-Prince Boateng is suspended for the weekend trip to Novara.

The two clubs appear close to an agreement but need to work out the formula of the deal, which is expected to be a loan.

Merkel has featured on six occasions this season, but with the signing of Davide Biondini, President Enrico Preziosi may let the youngster return to Milanello.
