Castellazzi laments penalty decision

By Luca Cetta

Thursday 26 January 2012

Inter goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi believes his side were denied a clear penalty in their Coppa Italia clash with Napoli.

It was the southern club who advanced to the semi-finals after an Edinson Cavani brace sealed a 2-0 win, however Inter felt they were due a penalty.

Cavani had earlier netted from the spot to make it 1-0, but when Diego Milito went down Inter felt they should have had a chance to level. Cavani then scored in injury time to seal the result and Napoli’s place in the last four, where they will take on Siena over two legs.

“It looked like a pretty clear penalty so it would have been a red card too if the referee had blown. Two decisions, one quite clear - Napoli's penalty - and the other one, ours, that was judged differently. I think an episode like that makes a big difference,” Castellazzi told the clubs official website.

“This year we're not getting much luck against Napoli, I hope it's only a question of individual episodes,” said the ex-Sampdoria man, referring to the league match earlier in the season in which Napoli won and referee Gianluca Rocchi was placed under the microscope.

“Otherwise it was an intense game. It's annoying because we wanted to go through. I think I did my job but it wasn't enough. I didn't save the penalty, that's true, and I don't even consider the second goal.

“It's a shame because it's important to keep the results coming and because now we're out of a competition that we've always had a huge say in over the last few years, but unfortunately you have to accept the result of the pitch. It means we’ll focus on the other competitions we're still involved in.”
