Mazzarri furious with referee after Napoli home draw with Cesena

Thursday 02 February 2012

Napoli Coach Walter Mazzarri was left incensed by the referring decisions in Napoli's 0-0 draw at home to Cesena on Wednesday night.

Despite having plenty of opportunities to score, Napoli were unable to make a breakthrough - five minutes from the end however, Goran Pandev slid the ball home from close-range, but Cristian Maggio, who knocked the ball down for the Macedonian, was adjudged to be offside. Replays suggested that the goal should have stood. In addition, Napoli had complaints over an offside decision in the first half on Edinson Cavani.

Mazzarri told Corriere dello Sport of his anger: "The goal was absolutely not offside, we have lost two points because of this refereeing decision. I don't know what he could have seen. It's not the first time this has happened, we always stay quiet, now the referees also have to take responsibility.

"We don't want to make excuses and not take our share of the blame, to collaborate we always stay quiet but now i'm tired, my patience has a limit."

Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis also echoed his Coach's views: "You can't be penalised in this way. We have lost many points so far for this reason. Four referees are not enough, we have to do like in the Europa League, where there are six."
