Crotone dream of miracle escape

Wednesday 17 May 2017

Crotone are one of the form sides of Serie A at the moment, however, despite going on a seven-match unbeaten run, it may all have come too late to avoid relegation to Serie B at the end of the season.

They found the adjustment to life in Serie A difficult after their promotion and after nine matches they sat rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point. Picking up occasional wins was never going to be enough and at the beginning of April, they were sitting in the relegation zone with just 14 points gained from a possible 84. They looked doomed, however, their turnaround in fortunes has been nothing short of miraculous as they embarked on a seven-match unbeaten run that has seen them more than double their points total in a matter of weeks. Use the Winner coupon code to increase your returns if you successfully back Crotone to continue the feat this weekend!

Wins over Internazionale, Sampdoria and Chievo, as well as draws with Milan and Torino, has given them a fighting chance of survival and with just two matches left this season, they sit just one point behind Empoli and two points behind Genoa. The bad news for Crotone is, this coming weekend they face a trip to Juventus, who need one win to secure the title and they may see their final match of the season at home to Lazio as their best chance of picking up the points needed to remain a Serie A side for the 2017/18 season.

Lazio have looked good in flashes this season and have already secured their place in the top five, giving them a Europa League place as well as a cup final appearance against Juventus. With a focus on attacking football, they have scored an incredible 20 goals in their last five matches, including a 7-3 win in an enthralling match against Sampdoria. Defence, however, is certainly not one of their strengths and they have conceded 11 goals in that same five-match run.

Whilst it's highly unlikely Crotone will be able to take anything from their visit to the Juventus stadium this coming weekend, their focus will be back for the visit of Lazio on the final day of the season and they will be hoping Lazio players may be a little complacent now that they have ensured Europa League football next season. A win against Le Aquile may not secure their place in Serie A for next season, however, with Genoa facing a tricky run in and a final match against Roma, who themselves are fighting for 2nd place, a point from their last 2 matches may see them survive.
