Juventus best XI of the (half) decade

By Football Italiano

Monday 22 May 2017

This weekend, Juventus reaffirmed their domination of Italian football by winning their sixth Scudetto in a row. In a team that has built much of it's success on a strong foundation, we take a look at the best players over the six years, with a number of everpresents, and one or two blasts from the past and find their ideal 11:

GK: Gianluigi Buffon

The talismanic Italy 'keeper joined Juve back in 2001, and even dropped to Serie B with them during a period of crisis. His loyalty was rewarded, as he kept goal for all the title winning seasons, even at the age of 39! A key player behind years of Juventus wins in your Football Accumulator Tips.

DF: Stephan Lichtsteiner

Signed from Lazio in 2011, the Swiss international held down a first team spot for five of the six seasons, thanks to his pacey wing play, and combative nature.

DF: Leonardo Bonucci

One of the Bianconeri's best buys when he joined from Bari in 2010, the centre-back has gone on to be a club hero, and part of one of Serie A's top defence partnerships with...

DF: Giorgio Chiellini

No surprises to see Chiellini here too - along with Bonucci, the partnership is also shared for the Italian national team.

DF: Patrice Evra

Evra was marked as past it when he left Manchester United, but helping Juve to a Champions League final along with domestic success suggests that to be wide of the mark. His dressing-room spirit also proved helpful to create a winning mentality.

MF: Andrea Pirlo

Often credited with instigating this new era of Juventus success when he was inexplicably discarded by AC Milan, he went on to win five Serie A titles. Enjoyed a strong partnership with...

MF: Paul Pogba

Slammed by Sir Alex Ferguson as showing no respect, Pogba left England in search of opportunites at a top side. And he got that with Juventus where his performances certainly made United aware of his value to the team.

MF: Claudio Marchisio

Consistent and fully in tune with the Juventus style of play and game-management. Only injuries have affected Marchisio's time with Juve, but he still managed to get 6 Scudetto winners medals.

MF: Arturo Vidal

Juventini feared for their future when Vidal left the side in 2015, but before then was a key attacking element in a side that sometimes lacked top strikers. Regularly in double figures for goals.

AT: Carlos Tevez

Possibly the best striker for Juve in this period, 39 goals in 66 games were the return for two successful seasons between 2013-15.

AT: Paulo Dybala

On course to make himself a Juventus hero in the longterm, the Argentine already has 41 goals in 92 matches, and has been key to getting to the Champions League final this term.
