Newly promoted Atalanta will be playing their home games in the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia during the 2011/12 campaign. The ground is often referred to as a relic of Mussolini’s Italy and is now deemed to be fairly outdated. With no roof and some obstructed views there is no doubt that some modernisation would not go amiss.
This does not mean that the atmosphere in this stadium is need of improvement and Atalanta have some of the loudest and most loyal fans on the Peninsula. This is an away day that many opposing teams and fans do not like as the hostile reaction they receive makes the match a daunting prospect.
The Curva Nord holds the Brigate Neroazzure, Ultras Bergamo and The Atalanta Commandos and they often choreograph displays that consist of flares, huge banner flags and fireworks. There maybe bigger and better stadiums around Italy but there are few as inflammatory as this one can be on match day.
